Swedish heavy metal band Katatonia has an illustrious 20 year history on the metal scene and is currently on a US and European tour with the Phonic Summit digital console. The band has recorded 8 studio albums, 2 live sets and numerous EPs, and still found time to tour the world playing for crowds of tens of thousands.
Katatonia lead guitarist Anders Nyström says, "Using the Phonic Summit has entirely eliminated all need for an expensive monitor tech at our live shows. This 16-channel digital mixer let us control and enjoy stereo track mixes for each member with a clear and logic overview of input/output balances, eq and effects. Switching between the mixes is as easy as pressing one button and the individual settings are then restored by total recall with motorized faders that take less than a second. Voila!”
Phonic digital console offers premium sound in an easily manageable desktop design and a smart choice for touring bands. The mixer essentially features thousands of dollars worth of live gear in a single, cost-effect console. The secret to the Summit is the 40-bit floating point digital processor, allowing for thousands of processes to occur per second – simultaneously controlling input, output, effects, delays, dynamics, equalizers, levels, routing, and so forth. Each input and output of the Phonic digital mixer features a parametric 4-band equalizer, user-adjustable dynamic processor with gate, expander, compressor and limiter, and delay control with adjustable feedback.
Anders continues, “The mixer also fits into an ATA approved flight case and is therefore both affordable and easy to transport by air and not only by ground. Since the Phonic Summit saves us both time and money, while giving us full freedom to embrace a really good live sound, we won't play a show or rehearsal without it!"

Katatonia is comprised of vocalist Jonas Renkse, lead guitarist Anders Nyström, and drummer Daniel Liljekvist. The current live line-up also features Per Eriksson on lead and rhythm guitars and Niklas Sandin on bass. The band is currently touring North America with Opeth and will headline the Madrid is the Dark III festival in Spain this December. Metal fans unfamiliar with Katatonia's melodic style of metal are encouraged to check them out.
